Designing Bunjil Place

This oversized A5, 76pp publication was commissioned by the City of Casey to tell the remarkable story behind the design of Bunjil Place by architectural firm Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp (FJMT). A mixture of conceptual sketches, CAD drawings, construction images and finished site photos by John Gollings had to be edited and organised into the publication design by Forde + Nicol alongside texts by a variety of contributors and luminaries.

The considered use of material is a signature of the work of FJMT and it is a quality we also aspire to at Forde + Nicol. Whenever we start any print project we always consider the tactile aspect of materials, formats and finishes that will enhance our design. A raw craft board cover perfectly reflected the warmth of the timber used in the construction of Bunjil Place whilst a delicate opaque white ink was used to render a CAD drawing of the site behind the book title.

We adapted the design and typography used in the publication for an accompanying exhibition held in Bunjil Place Gallery. Design applications included the generation of gallery signage, titles and online promotions of the show.
